SOCIAL MEDIA BEST PRACTICES FOR INDIES WINNERS

BEST PRACTICES

  • Your goal for social media is to build publishing platforms using tools like Facebook, Twitter, Vlogs/Blogs, etc.
  • Social media offers you a chance to get noticed in a new way: be authentic, positive, enthusiastic.
  • Watch trends and engage in “moment” marketing when possible using your book topic.
  • Share covers, author travel schedules, other media coverage.
  • Don’t try to work all social media—pick one or two (Facebook and Twitter, for instance) and focus on growing your following there.
  • Come up with a sharing schedule, don’t just post once. Change it up, so you aren't always posting the same thing.
  • Link to other relevant content.
  • Think of ways to “engage” with your audience. Start a conversation.
  • Take advantage of hashtags, especially on Twitter. Use appropriate hashtags (i.e., #romance) but also pay attention to what’s trending and see if you can tie your content to a hot topic of the day.
