Rosa Rojas, a Venezuelan folk healer and trained nurse, and Thomas Seal agree to canoe a wild Venezuelan river as they had done as children. On the trip, they reveal traumas they have suffered: deaths of Rosa's family members, horrors Tom experienced in Vietnam. They take few provisions and push off in a canoe as night comes on. At first the trip seems to allow them to return to the innocence of their childhood, but the river and their own dark past lives have many surprises for them.
