The Great Gathering Place

From a Métis author and a Cree and Métis illustrator, this picture book is a glorious celebration of Indigenous culture and of intergenerational inheritances and bonds. It welcomes the audience along on a time-crossing journey to honor one’s ancestors, the elements, and the animals of the surrounding environment. Exhortations to always be gentle, generous, and kind in community round out its meditations. Transliterated Cree language terms run alongside the English text, and the illustrations, in which spirits and the living commingle, are enchanting.
