The House

In this cheering picture book about nature’s reclamation of abandoned human spaces (published in English and Spanish), a summer-built house delights in the warmth provided by the family that dwells within it. The family’s diverse members take care of the house, even as it shelters them. A disastrous lightning strike chases the family out, though; the house fallows for many seasons. In time, the flora and fauna around it take over its spaces, giving it purpose once more. Some spreads are lovely and silent, consumed by illustrations—wispy multimedia collages with sweet evocations of nature and brilliant bursts of color—that are enchanting.
