Starred Review:

The Boy, the Troll, and the Chalk

Dimensional illustrations with a glowing, illuminated quality bring extra sparkle to this sweet fable about the powers of patience and acceptance in defeating loneliness. Most parkgoers avoid the central cave; a scary, unfriendly troll is said to dwell within it. One brave boy, armed with crayons and his imagination, decides to invite the troll out to play. Each day, he draws part of a picture; each morning, the image is finished. Though the supposed troll is hesitant to reveal himself, the boy is gentle in coaxing him out. Their friendship chases judgment out of the park and invites magic in.
