Sonnets and Serpents
A Casters & Crowns Novel
A headstrong princess and an exiled scholar join forces to search for missing people in Elizabeth Lowham’s exciting fantasy novel Sonnets and Serpents.
Eliza, the second-born princess of Loegria, follows her beloved knight Henry across the sea to Pravusat. There, she enlists the aid of a fellow Loegrian, Silas, to understand the local language. Silas, who was exiled for being able to communicate with snakes and change into one as well, refuses to help Eliza at first. But she binds them together with a translation spell, ensuring that she can borrow Silas’s understanding of the local tongue. As a result, though, they can’t move more than twenty feet apart from one another.
As Silas and Eliza inch toward trusting each other despite their differences, they struggle to locate Henry, noticing other disappearances too. With boneless corpses turning up and the impossible theft of magic looming, Silas and Eliza learn to rely on one another, even as their feelings for each other grow.
While Silas and Eliza seem mismatched at first, their friendship and subsequent romance develop at a satisfying pace. The culture of Pravusat is rich and multifaceted—a haven for Silas and a challenge for Eliza. She grows from a hopeless romantic with a soft spot for sonnets into a fiery leader, while Silas goes from a cynical loner to someone who can embrace the love Eliza extends to him. In their race to unravel the mystery of the disappearances, Silas and Eliza go from strangers to allies to lovers, learning to give one another grace so as not to repeat the mistakes of their past.
In the absorbing fantasy novel Sonnets and Serpents, two people far from home share an adventure despite their differences.
