Secrets of Your Majestic Heart
Your Sacred Journey to Healing
With guidance for overcoming trauma and finding peace within, Secrets of Your Majestic Heart is a holistic guide to self-healing.
Catia Carrier’s spiritual self-help book is about identifying, understanding, and recovering from physical and psychological trauma.
Drawing from Carrier’s experiences as a First Nations Cree woman and her decades of work in trauma recovery, the book advocates for a holistic approach to trauma intervention in which energy-based healing methods—including traditional Chinese medicine, Indigenous traditional healing practices, crystals, and sound-frequency healing—are made to work in conjunction with, or even in place of, contemporary Western medicine. It outlines a spiritual process to restore inner balance by embracing metaphysical healing energy. Through this work, it claims, self-healers can embody majestic healing and mend their hearts, overcoming trauma and finding peace within.
The book covers trauma in multiple forms, including physical, psychological, and cultural trauma. It also addresses post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with detailed explanations of its causes and treatments, as well as collective and intergenerational trauma. There are clear explanations of physiological and energy-related responses to trauma as well. Further, the book asserts that conventional Western medicine and its approaches to trauma are inadequate and advocates for the use of pharmaceuticals as a last resort, except in cases of severe mental illness. Throughout, it emphasizes the body’s innate wisdom and capacity to heal.
The book introduces energy psychology, a set of mind-body techniques designed to reduce stress and trauma while fostering calm. Practical exercises, including the Butterfly Hug, are explained in detail. The book also delves into childhood trauma through the lens of attachment theory, outlining the four attachment styles and offering specific healing recommendations for each. Additionally, a detailed “healthy relationship map” appears, contrasting characteristics of supportive versus toxic relationships.
In-depth guidance for healing practices can be found at the end of each chapter. The recommended treatments include holistic remedies like lemon balm, chamomile, and melatonin; practical advice like finding a certified trauma-informed therapist or keeping a journal of trauma symptoms; and physical exercises like mindfulness meditation. However, some such healing suggestions are covered in too-brief terms, evading clarity and nuance. For example, calls to embrace “radical forgiveness” and the “Seven Sacred Grandfather Teachings” appear without in-depth explanations.
The use of caps for emphasis detracts from the book’s otherwise calm tone. Visuals of varying usefulness and design quality appear, too. While the emotion wheel is clear and useful, some of the graphics that are meant to inspire the audience are less engaging, as with a photograph of a lake that proclaims “The soul requires happiness … detox your heart.”
Secrets of Your Majestic Heart is a spiritual self-help guide that pairs vulnerability with soft guidance toward holistic trauma recovery.
