Phoenix Saga: Peace on Earth Protocol

A Modern Epic in Pro Sé: Book Two

Clarion Rating: 2 out of 5

With a quest narrative that suggests ways of living a good life and stepping closer to harmonious coexistence, Phoenix Saga: Peace on Earth Protocol is an esoteric spiritual novel.

In amalL era JesuƨɘႱ hO’s based-in-truth allegorical novel Phoenix Saga: Peace on Earth Protocol, a man who was impacted by negative experiences with mental health care pursues self-understanding in wider realms.

Herein, JesuƨɘႱ, a “poet-oracle & saynt,” records his thoughts and observations in poems and works of short prose. Together, these elements tell two stories: one grounded in reality and the other relaying fantastical pursuits. JesuƨɘႱ’s story is told in a creative way, using multiple formats, including a college application essay and a performance review; his difficult childhood is referenced alongside the challenges of parenthood and personal attempts at self-improvement. Elsewhere, much space is devoted to the travels of Enēôlnən, who encounters a variety of beings on his quest for greater understanding. Religious and historical figures, including Joan of Arc, deliver lofty messages about peace and healthy living to him. Some of this guidance is common sense, as with advice to cultivate appreciation for simplicity and to acknowledge others’ perspectives and talents. However, such recommendations appear alongside underinterrogated tips such as to eat only “one meal a day” amid “frequent fasting.”

But the segues between chapters are too vague, and the narration has an unfocused quality. And the text makes its own spelling, grammatical, and formatting rules, holding audiences at a distance. Racial slurs appear without clear purpose; there is no indication of whether the individuals using them are part of the groups against which the slurs are directed. And the prose is esoteric, while its use of terms from other languages further clouds its story, characterizations, and messages.

References are cited throughout, but without connecting to the bits of text that they are associated with. Further, the book’s extensive notes shed little light on the story’s arc and aim. In the end, the experimental, cryptic writing style obscures the story’s purpose too much. In the rare instances when the narrative does open up to general readers, though, glimpses of intriguing worlds appear, including in the course of Enēôlnən’s travels, which take him to a series of beautiful locations.

Part of a trilogy, the allegorical novel Phoenix Saga: Peace on Earth Protocol follows dual storylines designed to illuminate paths toward the betterment of humanity.
