I Spy With My Little Eye
The premise is an oldie-but-goodie: guess what lies beyond a peek-a-boo hole in the page given a single clue. Artist Edward Gibbs’s debut picture book is a stunner; his extraordinary line drawings will engage anyone (of any age) who takes time to open it. Every two spreads, the eye of a different animal portrayed in a different color invites children to uncover and then encounter, in turn, a blue whale, a green frog, a red fox, a yellow lion, and an orange orangutan (clue: “I swing from tree to tree with my long arms”). Ages two to five.
