Last Days

2009 INDIES Finalist
Finalist, Horror (Adult Fiction)

Brian Evenson will stump you-one is tempted to say literally-with Last Days (Underland Press, 978-0-9802260-0-3), and for that some readers will give him a hand, and maybe a finger or toe as well. In this mystery-horror combo, the characters really are the sum of their parts.

Last Days combines two novellas, or stories, and the title of the first is both an invitation and a warning: The Brotherhood of Mutilation. Crisply written, the stories deliver as much gore as horror, but watching weird people lose weight in bloody increments requires a per-verse taste for the macabre, not to mention a strong stomach.
