As We Go Bimonthly: Books are Needed, Not Yet Published, Gotta Be Good

In order to satisfy the 30,000 librarians, booksellers, and consumers who read our journal, Foreword Reviews is going bimonthly, plus adding six additional special sections to our editorial calendar year beginning Winter issue 2017.

We run a review factory: books in one end, reviews out the other. We employ dozens of talented writers and editors to fashion lengthy, thoughtful, critical reviews of new titles from the independent publishing sphere.

Lest you get the wrong impression, not just any book will earn a review in our pages. If you’d like to submit a book for review consideration, here’s what we look for:

  • Independently published books (no Big Five publicly traded corporate publishers);
  • Two months (or more) ahead of pub date;
  • Physical galleys and books (yes, we do accept ebooks and PDFs, albeit reluctantly);
  • Tip sheet enclosed (no other press materials needed).

Foreword reviews books in all genres, from poetry to graphic novels to business and Spanish language and everything in between. We continually run feature stories around various genres and book topics. To improve your chances of earning a review, please reference our editorial calendar (see below) and adhere to the submissions guidelines at forewordreviews.com.

Typically, we review 150 books in each issue of Foreword Reviews, chosen from approximately 1,200 submissions. Your book will be judged against titles from the best university presses, prestigious literary presses, and indie publishers of all sizes. With limited space in our magazine, and such a high number of submissions, the odds of earning a review come down to one factor: excellence. Your book must distinguish itself through design, organization, writing quality, and timeliness. We only review great books.

Based on demand from our readers, Foreword Reviews is going bimonthly, plus adding six additional special sections to our editorial calendar year beginning Winter issue 2017.
