The Oracle of Rewilding
Pathways to Renewing Our Kinship with All Things
Bring your pressing questions to Alexandra Eldridge and Sherry Salman’s lush deck The Oracle of Rewilding, which confronts Anthropocene dissonance and damage with a refreshed sense of reverence and possibility.
A deck for “the awakening of unused faculties, the shaking up of conventional wisdom” and for nurturing “the ability to experience what seems beyond the human,” these cards layer meaning and enchantment atop surrealistic paintings in which the human, animal, and mythical worlds intertwine. Their images make use of glass plate negatives from the turn of the twentieth century, upon which fabulistic forms and imaginative twists are imposed to ignite wonder and push those who are inquisitive toward change.
The Oracle of Rewilding is an enchanting deck whose readings are guided by a mix of fairy tales, ancient myths, and foundational wisdom, prompting awe. Suggestions come at the end of each reading about what the card’s appearance might signal. A girl dressed as a fairy points to enchantment, with the guidance to “allow your imagination to fly”; a shining wolf appears in a reversal of the Little Red Riding Hood story as a sign of illumination and the idea that we carry “the light of nature within ourselves” and can follow it out of darkness. Each card, whether read individually or as part of traditional spreads, is a new opportunity to shift “your conscious mind, your beliefs, your emotions, and your actions,” ensuring repeat engagement into the uncertain future.
