I'm on Assignment!

An Alternate View of Past Lives, The Impact on Our Current Lives, Soul Mates, World History, and the Akashic Records

Clarion Rating: 4 out of 5

Blending metaphysical and spiritual themes with contemporary concerns, I’m on Assignment! is an eye-opening self-help guide.

Medium and empath Diane Marie Taylor’s candid spiritual guidebook I’m on Assignment! is about reincarnation, spirituality, and finding personal purpose.

Drawing on stories of Taylor’s multiple lifetimes, this book seeks to inspire metaphysical and spiritual healing. Its various topics include soulmates and karma, but also mental health concerns like depression, suicide, and trauma. It exhorts individuals to welcome their current life assignments in order to find value and purpose, and to seek healing via energy channeling (for which there are suggested exercises).

The book devotes ample space to considering past lives and life energies. Explanations of reiki, a practice to harness life energy, complement this work, as does a cursory review of the concept of akashic records, or energetic catalogs of one’s past, current, and future lives. Details about Taylor’s past lives, including her life in eighteenth-century France, and humorous asides amplify such topics, as with the note that some contemporary historians are “picking up where they left off previously” as their earlier lives manifest in their current roles. Of wider applicability are notes about removing past energy from a current life contract by accessing akashic records and a section with guidance for introspection and the rediscovery of one’s life purpose.

The book’s suggested activities are accessible, as with encouragements toward hands-on activities using crayons, coloring, and molding clay. It recommends building a blanket fort to create the energy needed to connect to a “higher self” and past lives. Straightforward reflection questions to aid in connecting with such energy are included, too, as about the activities one enjoyed as a child, particular phobias, or unique fascinations with certain languages and historical periods. And external recommendations are included, too, as with the advice to create value in one’s life by helping others via food bank donations, giving blood and plasma, and volunteering.

Indeed, in blending metaphysical and spiritual themes with contemporary concerns, the book encourages healing via active shifts in one’s perspective about daily life. Despite the esoteric nature of its considerations of reincarnation, it has wide applicability through its coverage of self-reflection, forgiveness, and kindness toward others. And its lighthearted, vulnerable narration is an additional benefit, as with Taylor’s intimate stories about giving birth and dealing with depression. Further, it is frank in discussing subjects as varied as reincarnation linked to a famous person (which is often downplayed in psychic circles) and abortion, making its pages tender and approachable.

Illustrating metaphysical concepts with clarity, I’m on Assignment! is a lucid spiritual guide to making the most of one’s life.
