Dialogues from Beyond

Clarion Rating: 2 out of 5

Growth is not only possible but the purpose for being, according to Dialogues from Beyond, a lengthy record of personal interactions with a higher spiritual plane.

Frances Gaik’s spiritual memoir Dialogues from Beyond addresses existential questions through an invitation to reflect and trust.

The book gathers messages delivered during deep trance sessions across forty-plus years. These are presented as conversations with a higher intelligence referred to as “the Source.” They touch on an eclectic range of topics, including reincarnation, illness, suicide, karmic lessons, addiction, war, and the significance of solar eclipses. Some sections begin with quotes or questions addressing global or philosophical concerns or personal matters. The Source, responding from a higher plane of knowledge, draws on collective wisdom to offer encouragement on the topics.

However, the Source’s responses are winding and elliptical, circling meaning rather than landing on it. Still, core teachings emerge, as with the ideas that compassion matters; that intention shapes energy; that free will is a sacred tool; and that individual thoughts ripple outward, having real effects on the wider world. Here, small acts, if made with care, carry meaning, and growth is not only possible but the purpose for being; Earth is treated as a school, and people’s struggles, doubts, and pain are regarded as integral to the learning processes, helping them grow through their choices, experiences, and reflections.

Complementing its suggestion that guidance is available at all times to those who seek it with sincerity and open hearts, the book’s organization reflects its expansive perspective. It is quite long and encompasses hundreds of short entries on topics ranging from quantum theory to the national anthem and “Past Lives with Pets.” On the subject of Charles Manson’s death, for example, the Source intones

What does occur here with such a soul? There would be here then a period of time in which particular, let us say, isolation occurs in that of a what would be, in your terms, a coma-like state… . Paths available to the soul likely not to be in that of the physical. But, would not say never, for eternity is immeasurable.

Its mosaic structure resists cohesion and forward movement; it can be opened at random, read for a few pages, and exited again.

The Source’s words are recorded verbatim from the trance sessions, and their oral quality includes pauses, hesitations, and stammering. The sentences often loop or double back on themselves, and some of the language is antiquated and abstract, holding outsiders at a distance. Further, commentary is kept to a minimum, and meaning is often elusive. While the path it charts through deep questions is undramatic, it is also quite personal, with the Source asking for trust, inviting reflection, and working toward insights, one topic at a time.

A record of a decades-long spiritual search, Dialogues from Beyond records thoughts from a higher plane on a bevy of topics.
