When the Presbyterian principal of a Brooklyn school urged his students to be more like Jesus, the Jewish community, getting no satisfaction from the Board of Education, staged a boycott of school Christmas pageants in protest. Their action generated an enormous antisemitic public backlash. The book traces the Christmas celebration dispute to the present day and describes how Jewish organizations of the twenty-first century have moved on to more winnable issues.
