God Song 4

Editor’s Note: This poem by Aaron Rosen is being presented as part of our special focus on poetry during #PoetryMonth in April. Please read our introduction to the series.

Daubs
On God-watch, his words
deprived of destiny
rejoice in the mischief of the unsaid.

With unrelenting hindsight, he
under the spell of a sly clock,
filibusters time’s death-wish
his words now manhandled to no end.

Greedy for face-time,
his words, afraid to be lost,
rally to a faith-in-waiting.
Lingering in ungodly space
they become in time
the humbug of departure
a difficult collage.
