Young Jesse Davis dreams of owning a horse. Her parents are separated and Jesse blames her father. Her uncle in Wyoming helps buy a wild filly, traumatized due to a helicopter roundup. It misses its herd. While Jesse tames her horse, she reconnects with her father. Both girl and horse learn to love and accept unconditionally, coping with belonging and self-confidence. After escaping into the mountains, the filly accepts she can never go back. Following her return, a family is reunited.
