What God Can Do For You Now

For Seekers Who Want to Believe

Reviewed by

According to Rabbi Robert Levine, God has called mankind to a covenant relationship characterized by partnership in the “often Herculean joint effort to make this bloodstained, unjust globe more peaceful and fair than we ever dared hope possible.”

While recognizing that others may have a different, but equally valid, understanding of God from the one he himself holds, Levine calls everyone to “Act as if there is a God.” The author asserts that those who model certainty, hope, and courage, even when in doubt or afraid will, without fail, find God.

Rabbi Levine is the leader of New York’s Congregation Rodeph Sholom, one of its largest Reform synagogues, and is one of the city’s most active interfaith clergymen. He has served as president of the New York Board of Rabbis, Chairman of the Catholic-Jewish Dialogue of the Archdiocese of New York, and has worked to restore millions of dollars in aid to the city’s homeless centers. Rabbi Levine has frequently appeared on national television and is the author of Where are You When I Need You: Befriending God When Life Hurts and There is No Messiah and You’re It: The Stunning Transformation of Judaism’s Most Provocative Idea.
