The News from the Master

“To my amazement, I found myself staring into the eyes of the most horrific person. I saw his image from the top of his head down to his chest. It was Satan…” Virji Angelo writes. “I jumped from the sofa, opened the door and demanded that the devil leave my house immediately! And instantly, he was gone.” This was not the last time she saw the devil. In The News From the Master, Angelo warns readers again and again that the enemy of our souls is real, but that God stands with us to comfort and protect.

Angelo’s first book, a balanced and affecting account, contains basic information about Christianity and relates a series of visions. She begins with her brother’s vision in the Philippines, where it seemed everyone was aware of the spirits. Her brother saw the devil in disguise as a prince, who rode a pale green horse and showed him great wealth, tempting him to join him. The other eight visions described here are the author’s own. In one, she is given gospel shoes which enable her to stomp on demon bugs. In another vision, Angelo sees Jesus, who carries us all in his arms; his cross on top of a hill sheds light on the scene, and demon bats flee from him as he walks.

Each vision is sprinkled liberally with comments and lessons learned. The author also relates them to the Scriptures, as in a vision of a satanically caused car accident, where the driver resembled the devil. “Some of us are being attacked by the devil,” Angelo writes, “but we don’t see who is actually causing the problem… He comes to steal, to kill and to destroy, so don’t be deceived. People think it is drugs and gangs and evil people, but in reality the devil is behind all of this.” At one point, the author sees Jesus standing beside her, looking upset. “It hurt him to know that another child of his was viciously attacked,” she writes. “It is not God who makes you suffer… It is the enemy who hurts you and tries to take your faith away from your Creator.”

Though the book relates so much of the spiritual realm, it is also practical for this world, constantly reminding readers to rely on the Bible for understanding, wisdom, and powerful authority from God. Angelo has masterfully crafted the story of her experiences, creating a vibrant vision of the spiritual world we seldom see, together with a tender devotional which encourages the heart and enlarges the understanding. The News from the Master is well worth reading.
