Mama's Bayou

“Mama’s by you on the bayou, rocking you to the sounds of the crickets. Chirp, chirp.” So begins this quiet and lovely experience of sound play and cut-paper and collage illustrations that create the rich and mysterious world of the Louisiana bayou, complete with frogs, skeeters, crawfish, gators, fishies, and a fiddle. The story ends with the hush, hush of a lullabayoui. The artwork is exceptional. A short appended list of bayou wildlife and vegetation provide more information for grownups and good readers.
